Junior Summer Camps will be taking place on Monday 30th and Tuesday 31st July from 10am - 12pm and again on Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th August. The camps are a mixture of skills and drills designed to help your child improve but most importantly, have fun! If you are interested in your child coming along, please contact Tracy from MTA on: firstname.lastname@example.org 07909705499
The coaching programme for under 18s is proving very successful. There are squads being offered on most week nights and we have over 50 juniors receiving coaching. The squads are made up of children of similar ages and abilities. Juniors of primary school age do not need to be a member to receive coaching so if you would like your child to try tennis, please contact Tracy at MTA and book in for a trial session. email@example.com 07909705499

Junior Awards Night and Party - Dec 2017
On Friday 15th December, twenty one children aged from five to sixteen were assembled at the clubhouse for their annual party and Awards evening. The event began with a buffet tea provided by Lee and Sally Grant for the children, and the opening of the bar for accompanying adults.
With everyone fed and watered, Head Coach Adrian introduced himself and the coaches Carl, Roberto and Alex. He thanked the coaches for their hard work on court, Ethan for his help with coaching and Carole and Lee for their support and liaison with the club. Currently, there are 35 children in coaching and the coaches are impressed by the enthusiasm and progress shown. Adrian said he was pleased with the supportive attitude shown by the Bearsted committee to the coaching plans.
Coaches then announced their awards for most improved players in their squads and various other categories, including biggest smile, happiest player and hardest worker.
Adrian spoke about a new initiative from the LTA designed to increase match participation for junior club players – Team Tennis. Bearsted have already taken part in two of these events against local clubs and won one of them. Play is open to all who have coaching and pairings are made up on the day. A fun event which our teams thoroughly enjoyed. Adrian’s plan is to involve more children in the Team Tennis, with the main aim being enjoyment.
Club Captain Kim Martin thanked Adrian and the coaches and said the committee were very pleased with the work they were doing. Speaking directly to the parents, he encouraged them to join the club and take advantage of all we had to offer. He closed by thanking club members for their help during the evening.
This was an informative and enjoyable evening – we look forward to next year.
Junior 'Team Challenge' Event - October 2017
After the success of the previous Team Challenge Event, Adrian hosted another one (indoors) at Freedom Fitness. This time, there were 3 age groups represented by 5 different local clubs. Over the course of the day, approximately 80 children had the chance to play singles and doubles against children of similar ages and abilitites. Bearsted was well represented in each age group: red ball, orange ball and green ball. A huge thank you to all the parents who took their children to Freedom Fitness and supported them throughout the day. The players from Bearsted showed the rapid improvement that has taken place in their tennis ability over the last few months and leant a lot from playing competitive matches. A huge congratulations to everyone who took part and contributed to Bearsted winning! Please see the gallery section of the website for photos of some members of the successful team.
Junior 'Team Challenge' Event - June 2017
Bearsted were privileged to host the first in a series of junior tournaments aimed at players who had little or no match experience. Players from Headcorn, MTA (The Bubble) and SET (Penenden Heath) joined us for an afternoon of competitive but fun tennis. The children played a variety of singles and doubles matches in two age groups with all points being combined to calculate the winning score and therefore winning team. Due to injuries, Bearsted had a slightly depleted team but Ewan, Will and Amelia competed well throughout the day and really enjoyed their experiences. Congratulations to the all girl MTA team who won the most points throughout the day and took home the (inflatable) trophy! A huge thanks goes to Adrian Moll (coach) for organising the event and running it on the day, Lee Grant (our junior rep) for liaising with Adrian and helping on the day, Sally Grant for sorting out the food, Anne and Neil Buscombe for manning the bar and finally, Ethan for giving up his afternoon to umpire the younger players. We are looking forward to visiting the other clubs to play the return tournaments. Please see the gallery section of the website for photos from the day.
Junior Representative's Reports by Lee Grant
WOW!!..... what a summer for junior tennis. I think we can some it up in two words “finals weekend”. Well done to all the juniors who provided us with some of the best matches of the weekend. I was lucky enough to be able to fully watch the boys singles, the boys doubles and the men's singles and couldn’t help but notice the fantastic comments about the boys that were made by those around me who were also lucky enough to watch such entertainment.
I feel junior tennis at Bearsted is certainly on the up and with the help of MTA I’m sure it can only get better, so I’m already looking forward to next year's tournaments.
With regards to the junior coaching, things are looking promising, but it would be nice to see a few more of you taking advantage of the great coaching we have at the club. We are hoping to introduce some events for the juniors in the near future, so please keep an eye out for details.
If there is anything you would like to ask, please feel free to either give me a call or drop me an email.
As this is my first report since taking over the role of Junior Representative from Michael Laurenson I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all the hard work and dedication he has put into the role over the past few years – thank you Michael.
I would also like to thank Adrian Moll and his team from MTA for coming to our club on bank holiday Monday and despite the weather, helped to make the family fun day a great one. Special thanks must go to Michael Mikelova and his team of helpers who spent the whole day on court 1 coaching and entertaining the numerous youngsters that turned up to play. I'm sure Michael will be a big hit with the children when they come back for lessons.
MTA are running a Tennis Camp for 4-16yr olds during the May half term. If you are interested please complete the leaflet here and return to MTA as soon as possible.
I would like to congratulate the following juniors for making it into the club's teams: Charlotte Hughes and Gemma Duckworth (Ladies 5), Charlie Adcock, Joe Tingley and Morgan Harlin (Mens 3), David Depledge (Mens 2) and Ethan Grant (Mens 1). Well done to you all.
Finally, it's junior tournament entry time. The entrance forms can be downloaded here. Please complete the form and return to me either by post or at the club. Let's try to make this year's tounament the best yet.
